Courtesy meeting of National Assembly Chairperson Dahal with IPU President and Secretary General


Geneva, October 29. Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal, Chairperson of the Inter-Legislative Association. Had a courtesy meeting with Dr. Tulia Ackson and General Secretary Martin Chungong.

In the meeting, mutual cooperation with Nepal's Federal Parliament and Inter-Legislative Association, exchange of support, parliamentary role for democracy and other issues were discussed.

In the meeting, Chairperson Dahal said that the various meetings and programs of IPU have helped to make the parliamentary role effective through dialogue, cooperation and exchange of good practices on issues such as democracy, human rights, gender equality, youth empowerment, sustainable development.

Chairperson Dahal said that they are willing to cooperate strongly and closely with the Inter-Legislative Association to refine parliamentary practice and strengthen democratic institutions. On that occasion, he asked to be in direct contact with the IPU and think about the participation of Nepal in its secretariat.

Chairperson Dahal said that through the constitution issued by the Constituent Assembly, Nepal has adopted an inclusive and proportional system to ensure the representation of women, minorities and marginalized communities.

Chairperson Dahal said that he understood the Inter-Legislative Association as a common platform where the needs, aspirations and problems felt by people around the world can be expressed through the representatives of the people and that its dignity and importance is increasing in the world.

On that occasion, Chairperson of the Inter-Legislative Association, Dr. Tulia Aksan, expressed her happiness that Nepal has actively participated in the IPU since the past. He said that the participation of 33 percent women in the Federal Parliament of Nepal is very commendable and Nepal is doing a good job in inclusion.

President Tulia said that the Secretariat of IPU is still in the process of being organized.

Members of the Nepali parliamentary delegation also participated in the meeting.
