Narayan Dahal elected as the Chairperson of the National Assembly
Kathmandu. Honorable member Narayan Prasad Dahal has been elected as the Chairperson of the National Assembly.
Honorable Dahal was elected the Speaker of the National Assembly on behalf of the Maoists after defeating the candidate of the Nepali Congress Honorable Yuvraj Sharma in the election held at the National Assembly meeting at the Federal Parliament Building Naya Baneshwar on Tuesday 29th February 2080.
39 votes were cast in favor of the proposal that Dahal be elected as the Chairperson of the National Assembly while 17 votes were cast against. There were 56 honorable members in the National Assembly meeting on Tuesday. Dahal was supported by Maoist, UML, United Samajwadi Party and Jaspa.
LOSPA also supported Sharma of Congress. Earlier, the proposal to elect Sharma as the Speaker of the National Assembly was rejected. There were 17 votes in favor of the proposal and 39 votes against.
Dahal, who started politics in the year 2027 from the then Aneraswawiyu, got the membership of the Communist Party of the Pushpalal group in the year 2031. He became a full-time member of the then Fourth Congress (Chaum) group from 2036 and had been in charge of party work since 2037. He became the central member of All India Nepali Ekta Samaj, joint secretary and became the treasurer during his stay and became the Gorakhpur district committee secretary of the party.
He became the general secretary of All India Nepali Ekta Samaj in 2042 and the president in 2045. He became a South Asia member on behalf of Nepal in the Revolutionary International Movement (RIM) in 2051. Dahal, who again became the central president of All India Nepali Ekta Samaj in 2053, became a central member of CPN (Maoist) in 2057.
He was in charge of migration for a long time and returned to Nepal in 2060 in the midst of crisis and became in charge of Jajarkot, Surkhet and Dolpa under CPN (Maoist) Bheri Karnali Bureau. In June 2063, CPN (Maoist) became in-charge of Kaski district. After 2064, he held the responsibility of secretary and co-in-charge of the then Newa and Tamsaling state committees of the party at various times. He became a central member and president of Bagmati province when the UML and Maoist center merged on 3rd June 2075. After the dissolution of the CPN, in 2077, he became the chairman of the Bagmati Province of the CPN (Maoist Center).
He was elected as a member of the Standing Committee at the 8th National Congress of the CPN (Maoist Center) held in November 2078. He remained in the role of co-in-charge of Bagmati Province in the subsequent division of duties.
As for the parliamentary role, he was a member of the Interim Legislature in 2063 and was elected from Constituency No. 3 of Chitwan in the first Constituent Assembly. Dahal, who was nominated as a member of the National Assembly by the President on March 25, 2078, was elected as the Speaker of the National Assembly on February 29, 2080.
